(LEAF BOOKS) Koenig, Eberhard. THE 1462 FUST & SCHOEFER BIBLE. Introduction
by Christopher de Hamel. With an Original Leaf from the 1462 Bible. Akron &
Evanston: Bruce Ferrini/Hamill & Barker. 1993. Lg. folio (19-3/4" tall).
40pp. With 12 illustrations. Edition limited to 166 copies. Finely printed
letterpress by W. Thomas Taylor on Magnani mouldmade paper. Bound in 1/4 maroon
morocco over boards. Black leather spine label and a paper label mounted on

clean and fresh, but does have a 3" closed tear and a small repair in the bottom
blank margin (text unaffected). Note: the text volume and leaf are normally
found housed together in a custom folder & box, which we do not have.
$3,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
A highly important leaf book production, making use of a fragment (166 of
481 leaves) of one of the rarest Bibles. The 1462 Bible is the fourth printed
Bible. It is famous for being the first dated Bible and also the first to
name the printer and the place where it was printed. The printing house of
Fust & Schoeffer was destroyed by fire three months after completion of this
Bible and many copies are believed to have perished. Dibdin notes that in his
day the 1462, 48 line Bible was more greatly esteemed than the 42 line
Gutenberg Bible. DISBOUND AND DISPERSED, #202.
