1. COLUM, PADRAIC. ORPHEUS, MYTHS OF THE WORLD. New York: Macmillan
Company, 1930. Illustrated by Boris Artzybasheff with twenty
engravings. First trade edition. Grey cloth with black embossed
design, that wraps around both boards and spine, black lettering at
spine; pictorial dust jacket. Inscribed by the author at ffep, in
sprawling handwriting "To Frank C. Reilly, with the author's best
wishes, Oct. 4, 1930". Frank C. Reilly was a playwrite and a
producer. 4to. [327 pgs] Near fine/Good. Previous owner's bookplate
at paste-down. Upper edges of boards and spine lightly discolored.
Dust jacket has several tears at edges and has since been covered
with mylar. Overall very clean and sound. It is much harder to find
a first trade edition inscribed by Colum than to find a limited

Introduction by Crane Brinton. Dust jacket torn and chipped at tail
of spine with minor wear at extremities, covered with mylar. Minor
foxing at edges. Contents are sound and clean. $75.00 {94064}

Green cloth with gilt lettering at front board and spine, top edge
stained red. Inscribed by Padraic Colum. 8" x 5.25". [492 pgs] Near
fine. Tipped in is a full page poem written in green ink by Tom Daly,
Christmas 1926, To Hawley Mclanahan, titled "The Road Round Ireland".
Daly was a columnist for the Philadelphia Record at the time he wrote
the poem. Laid in is a critique of this writing. Minor shelf wear at
extremities, contents are clean and sound. $175.00 {94066}
