Greetings Booklovers,
We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 10213 ) Klein, Philip Shriver. PRESIDENT JAMES BUCHANAN: A BIOGRAPHY.
University Park: University Park Pennsylvania State University Press,
(1962). First printing, Full cloth, Octavo, xx, 506 pages, black and white
photographs, illus.. Very Good in a Very Good Dust Jacket, Jacket in Mylar
protector.
Definitive biography of Buchanan, though Klein is clearly favorably
disposed to the president he calls a "peacemaker who fails. " Particularly
good in showing Buchanan's mastery of Pennsylvania politics as well as his
mistaken responses to issues like the LeCompton Constitution, the homestead
bill, and secession. Good bibliography. COHEN, p 71. Bound in
mustard-colored cloth over boards with spine and upper board stamped in
blue. Shallow bump at bottom edge of lower board. Jacket has a few shallow
edge wrinkles and some minor surface wear....... $75.00
