MANNERS, AND CHARACTER OF THE PEOPLE OF FRANCE AND GERMANY. London: Published 
for the Author, by John and Arthur Arch et al. 1823. Folio. (8),16pp. Plus a 
copper engraved dedication leaf and 52 mounted, finely etched plates 
(numbered 1 to 60) on India paper. The mounted plates are interleaved with blanks. 
Cont. 1/2 green morocco, gilt (spine faded to brown), over marbled boards, 
corners & extremities of spine rubbed. T.e.g. Plates with occasional (mostly 
light) foxing. Recent gift inscription on front free endpaper.     $450.00

Lewis (1782-1871) accompanied Thomas Frognall Dibdin and originally drew 
these sketches for Dibdin's "A Biographical, Antiquarian and Picturesque Tour 
in France and Germany," but they were not included in its publication.
