Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet (1627-1704) was a French
bishop and theologian in the court of Louis XIV,
the "Sun King", a renowned orator, and one of the
most fervent defenders of absolute monarchy.
Scarce. OCLC shows neither work at auction in the
last half century, though a copy of L'Esprit de
Bossuet was auctioned in Europe in 2004. See
Delamarre, Louis, and Ferdinand Brunetière.
"Jacques-Benigne Bossuet." The Catholic
Encyclopedia. Vol. 2. OCLC shows six copies of
L'Esprit de Bossuet but only one, at the BN
France, of Principes sur la Fidélité due aux
Rois. A very good copy, small splits on head and
heel of joints with minor loss, light foxing to
verso of endpapers, else text bright. [36022]
