Now entitled, Thousand Nights and A Night. Beautiful illustrated ten volume set. Limited Edition, #18 of 1000 sets. Each volume has a black and white maze drawing to the prelim page, verso are a list of quotes; photogravures and drawing illustrations, some by famous French illustrator Adolphe Lalauze, Facing Limitation page is a dedication page "Inscribed to the Memory of" to different people in Burton's life. Volume I., 14 plates, photogravures and drawings; hand written poem in pencil to rear e.p., to pastedown neatly printed list of descriptions, i.e., Men squat -women stand, with page number reference. Printed as if typed. Facsimile from the original edition of dedication to John Frederick Steinhaueser, "Who a quarter of a century ago Assisted Me in This Translation". Vol. II. 7, photogravures and drawings, pg. 307. lower side edge few crease with two 1/2 closed tears. Also neat written list of reference with page no. to rear pastedown; Vol. III, 6 photogravures, listed notes to rear e.p. with page numbers;  Vol., IV., 6 photogravures. Page 30 mild offsetting; 295 closed thumb tear to marginal area. Vol. V. 7 photogravures,1 illustration. With 1 inch closed tear to lower side edge page 115, 1/4 creased closed tear to side edge margin of page 516. Each volume includes a frontispiece, all photogravures have tissue guard, and small decoration to margin of illustration. Black cloth boards and spine, stamped title on gilt wrap around banner, gilt title (in Arabic) and volume numbers to spine. Many photogravures by Adolphe Lalauze, French Illustrator (1838-1906). Each volume has an index. Various volumes have random red underlining to paragraphs and footnotes,  perfectly straight under text. Notes in volumes stated to rear pastedown are in pencil.  Few pages have tiny marginal closed edge tears. Else text very clean and bright as are illustrations. Hinges tight, few volumes have the slightest rubbing, few volumes gilt to spine is moderately dulled. TEG. A very handsome set.  Ex-libris plates to pastedown, "From the Private Library of Verda and Claude M. Koons". sm 4 to., 362, 343, 356, 308, 406, 303, 382, 359, 359, 532 pages. n.d. Circa early 1900's.
