Searle, & Rivington, 1883. First Edition. Octavo (5-1/2" x 9") bound in 
the original blue cloth with a gilt-decoration of an Aboriginal hunting 
a kangaroo on the front cover; x, 537, [1], [2 - ads] pages. Illustrated 
with four folding facsimiles of letters; one folding facsimile of a 
handwritten newspaper; a folding map; a double-page plate with numerous 
facsimile signatures of Men of the Period; four full-page lithographed 
views; 42 half-page illustrations on 21 lithographed plates (19 with 38 
views, two with four portraits); four lithographed portraits of Hamilton 
Hume, the White Wild Man, John Pascoe Fawkner, and Angus McMillan; and a 
color lithograph frontispiece with a view of 'Melbourne, from the Falls, 
1837.' Pencil signature of H. Britton dated 1884 on the front endpaper 
and below that of Rod M. Sutherland dated Nov. 1949. Occasional light 
spotting to text. A half-inch tear to the top of the spine, mild rubbing 
to the edges. Near Fine copy of an uncommon book.         $350.00
