AUSTRALIAN COLONIES: THEIR PHYSICAL AND POLITICAL GEOGRAPHY, TOGETHER 
WITH A BRIEF NOTICE OF ALL THE CAPITALS, PRINCIPAL TOWNS, AND VILLAGES; 
ALSO OF RIVERS, BAYS, GULFS, MOUNTAINS, POPULATION AND GENERAL 
STATISTICS. Sydney: W. & F. Ford, 1848. First Edition. Octavo (5-7/8" x 
9-1/4") bound in modern blue boards with a gilt-decorated blue morocco 
spine with a gilt-lettered brown morocco spine label. xv, [i], 438, [1], 
16 [ads] pages. Illustrated with 4 black-and-white views etched by J. 
Carmichael of Sydney (2), East Boyd, and a whaling scene off the Boyd 
Town Light House, as well as 22 county maps and 1 folding map of 
Australia, all hand-colored in outline. Complete with the subscriber's 
list and the 16 pages of illustrated advertisements at the end. 
Bookplate of noted Australiana collector Bernard Gore Brett on the front 
pastedown. Occasional foxing and offsetting, heaviest to the views 
though never terrible; maps generally clean. Very Good to Near Fine, 
attractively bound and quite uncommon. (#011559)        $650.00
