Osborn, C. E. and Thorn, R. S., eds. THE ECHO [AND] THE HUDSON RIVER
MAGAZINE. [Hudson, N.Y.]: [Thorn and Osborn], 1938-1941. Illus. with
b/w photos and drawings. 4to. (28-31 cm.). Paper wrappers. First
edition. Imprint varies: May 1938-Aug. 1939, Thorn and Osborn; Nov.
1939- 1940, Carroll E. Osborn; Jan-May 1941, Hudson River Publishers.
A nearly complete run which contains the complete five issues of
volume I, the complete four issues of Volume II, the first issue of
Volume II, and the complete 4 issues of volume IV. The first issue
left it to the readers to name the magazine in a "Name Your Magazine
Prize Contest." The next four issues were called "The Echo: The
Magazine of the Hudson Valley," but beginning with vol. II, No. 1 in
1939, the name was changed to "The Hudson River Magazine." Articles
about: Teviotdale, Civil Service, Beekman Arms (Rhinebeck),
Woodstock, Berkshire Symphonic Festival (Tangelwood), Frederick
Goudy, Albany, General Worth Hotel, Fishing Industry, the artist
David Lithgow (with a cover), Fort Crailo, Amos Easton, Lindenwald,
Vassar, Lowell Thomas, Barging the Hudson, Warner's Tavern, Hudson
River, Antirent Wars, Kingston, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and much more
including fiction poetry, advertisements, and local notices. Scarce.
A very good set overall: first issue with stain to front wrapper and
to inner margin of leaves but not affecting the text; two small chips
to cover of second issue, occasional soiling, a few issues with
mailing labels, leaves clean and crisp. [26738] $175.00
