The "second" edition of this revised martyrology, which is organized in
chronological form. The first edition of 1586, printed in Venice, was
full of errors and Baronius (1538-1607) complained it had been printed
without his permission and tried to suppress it. Plantin was then
authorized by Baronius to produce another edition which first appeared
in 1589. This is the second edition of the authorized revised version.
