[NEWMAN, John Henry, Cardinal]. THE CHURCH OF THE FATHERS. London:
J.C.F. & J. Rivington, 1840. First Edition. Small octavo (4-1/4" x
6-3/4") bound in contemporary full brown pebbled morocco by Fazakerley
of Liverpool, "Bookbinder to H.M. the King." This early work by the
author of APOLOGIA PRO VITA SUA and an early proponent of the Oxford
Movement was published without identification of its author on the title
page. Slight aging of text; joints rubbed but covers firm, tape shadows
at head and heel of spine. Armorial bookplate of a priest on the front
pastedown. Very Good and uncommon.

We don't know if the claim of binding for the king is true, but we do
know that Fazakerley was hired by Brigham Young to bind the First
British Edition of THE BOOK OF MORMON. $750.00
