TITLE: “American Gunsmiths. A Source Book”

By Frank M. Sellers.
Published in Highland Park by The Gun Room Press in 1983.

DISCUSSION: The first, hardcover edition of this classic listing of
thousands and thousands (and thousands) of American gunsmiths. If you’re
looking for nice pictures, there are none here, and no cute anecdotes
about the gunsmiths. But if you want to original hardcover edition and
thousands of names, places and dates, you’re in the right place.

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 8.5”x11”, 349 pages.

CONDITION NOTES: Minor cover soil, former owner’s bookplate. Minor wear,
but overall clean and nice, with a tight binding and no marks.

TITLE: “Massachusetts Military Shoulder Arms, 1784-1877”

Published in Lincoln by Andrew Mowbray, Inc. in 1988.

DISCUSSION: Not only a guide to the muskets, but to their makers as well.
Covers flintlock muskets, flintlock rifles, flintlock muskets altered to
take percussion caps, percussion arms, and cartridge arms. There is also a
chapter on some mysterious Massachusetts muskets with big brass butts. Er,
butt plates.

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 8.5”x11”, 123 pages, black & white illustrations.

TITLE: “Rhode Island Arms Makers & Gunsmiths, 1643-1883”

Published in Providence by Man at Arms Publications in 1980.

DISCUSSION: A valuable resource of biographies and company histories of
Rhode island gunsmiths and arms manufacturers, based on extensive original
research in period records. There are numerous illustrations of antique
firearms, old advertisements and photographs, and an appendix contains a
complete transcription of the daybooks of gunsmith Welcome Mathewson for
the years 1805-1815.

TITLE: “Thoughts on the American Flintlock Pistol”

Published in York by Geo. Shumway in 1974.

DISCUSSION: A reissue of a pioneering work, first published in 1959 as a
supplementary chapter in the 4th edition of Dillin’s “The Kentucky Rife”
with some additional illustrations added by the publisher. Dyke
illustrates and describes many pistols from a number of private
(identified) collections.
