EDITIONS. Three volumes, small 8vos, in original blue paste-board  
bindings, hand-lettered spine labels; 296, 279. 280 pp.
First edition of the collected poetry of Ludwig Tieck (1773-1853), an  
early and influential figure in German Romanticism, and hence, the  
entire Romantic Movement. Tieck was better known in his own day for  
his plays, novels and stories, but in modern times his poetry has been  
"elevated to some kind of philosophical paradigm" and Tieck has gained  
admirers for the "sinuous, musical vaporous, inconstant qualities" of  
his verse (R. Paulin, MLA, 1998). Bumping and wear to the corners,  
rubbing to the boards; some foxing to the first and last 2-3 leaves of  
each volume; mild toning to the text, a few small spots; otherwise  
clean and sound, firmly bound. A very good example of an uncommon set.
