BELL, JOHN.  ENGRAVINGS OF THE BONES, MUSCLES AND JOINTS. THE FIRST AMERICAN FROM THE SECOND LONDON EDITION.  Philadelphia: Anthony Finley (Wm. Fry, Printer) 1816.  First U.S. book edition. Austin 193. 3 parts in one: Parts 1 & 2 have separate title pages; pagination of Part 3 continuous with Part 2.   Quarto, old marbled boards, leather tips, old signature on end paper,   later calf spine, 108; 123 pages. Light soiling of lower few inches of some leaves. Complete with 32 plates & 2 text-engravings. (“Regarded as the founder of surgical anatomy ... His illustrations were his own work and were of a high standard” – Garrison/Morton in re his “Principles of Surgery.”) Often found incomplete, &/or in decrepit condition.
