1706. (4),xvi,96,(8)pp. Index. Minor worming on the final 20 leaves
with the loss of some letters (but readability not affected). Cont.
tooled paneled calf, rubbed, spine worn & chipped at extremities, label
mostly lacking. 2” split at top of rear hinge.  $500.00 (trade discount
allowed)
A new English translation of both works. The first, by Esprit, was
previously published in 1691 under the title, “The Falsehood of Human
Virtue.” La Rochefoucauld’s work had been translated in 1694 under the
title, “Moral Maxims & Reflections.”
