Approximately 8-1/2 x 6-1/2 inches in original  sheep re-backed in cloth with original  leather title label (?) on spine. Label, with gilt lettering, a little edge-chipped. Cover edges moderately rubbed.  Endpapers replaced. With frontis and numerous text illustrations. Uncommon in sheep. $110.00  ($100 to the trade)

London: Chapman & Hall, 1880.
In original blue-green cloth stamped in black on front and back covers and with gilt on spines.  Corners bumped and spine  joints and edges a bit rubbed. Complete with half titles and advertisements in volume 3.   Illustrated collector's bookplates on front pastedowns. Somewhat shaken, with several signatures pulled and marginal tear in one leaf of advertisements. Lightly faded and abraded area in center of front cover of volume 1, (removal of a subscription library label?--many triple-deckers were purchased by Mudie's and other subscription libraries.) Not withstanding the above, a presentable set of a work often found in worn or rebound condition. Sadleir 57.

1st edition, complete with the half-title. Quarto, approx. 11 x 8.75 inches, later boards; (iv), 19 pages. Small worn area in blank portion of fly-title & title leaf. (Churchill, 1731-1764, noted British poet & satirist, this work being a spirited satire on learning, bad writing & authorship, &c.)
