Report from the Select Committee of the House of Commons on Petitions
Relating to the Corn Laws of the Kingdom: Together with the Minutes of
Evidence and an Appendix of Accounts. London: James Ridgway, 1814.
Original publisher's binding of blue paper-covered boards and paper
spine; 8vo; iv + 260 + xlvi pp. [WITH:] Tracts Relating to the Corn
Trade and Corn Laws: Including the Second Report Ordered to be Printed
by the Two Houses of Parliament. By William Jacob, Esq. F.R.S. London:
John Murray, 1828. Original publisher's binding of blue paper-covered
boards and paper spine and spine label; 8vo; vi + [2] + 293 + 85 + 41
+ [1] pp.; folding table.
Two volumes related to the England's notorious early 19th-century corn
laws, untrimmed in original publisher's boards. First title lacking
the original paper spine label, hinges starting to split at the ends
but boards are secure, loss to a patch of the blue paper covering the
bottom corner of the rear board; original owner's neat notations to
the list of Witnesses Examined; otherwise contents very clean and
fresh. Second title with two additional, separately paginated
sections: "Notices Respecting the Commerce of the Black Sea and of the
Sea of Azoff; More Especially as Regards the Trade in Wheat" and
"Observations on the Benefits Arising from the Cultivation of Poor
Soils by the Application of Pauper Labor..." Both boards detached,
wear and chipping to the spine and spine label, front endpaper
partially loose, a few small spots, otherwise clean and sound.
