[WALSH, William]. A DIALOGUE CONCERNING WOMEN, BEING A DEFENCE OF THE
SEX, WRITTEN TO EUGENIA. London: R. Bentley and J. Tonson, 1691. First
Edition. Small octavo (4-1/8" x 6-3/8") bound in later red morocco gilt,
gilt borders with floral decoration at each corner of inner panel, spine
gilt in compartments, marbled endpapers; [viii], 134 pages with original
blanks. Walsh's first book, with a six-page preface by John Dryden, is a
defense against literary attacks on women's intellectual powers and an
argument for the equality of women. Text quite clean. Head of spine
chipped with the front cover neatly detached but present. Very Good and
rather scarce.

Poet, critic, mentor to Alexander Pope, member of Parliament, and man of
fashion, Walsh was friendly with many of the poets and writers of his
day. (#016113) $5,000.00
