Original pictorial boards are near fine; protected illustrated wrapper is lacking a few pieces, not affecting text or images. Small 8vo. (approx 7-1/2 x 5 inches); 384 pages; frontis and 6 plates. New York City locale, urchins, newsboys, &c. Scarce.  ($40) $20

HODGSON, RALPH.  THE MYSTERY AND OTHER POEMS.  London, 1913.  1st edition. Large paper edition of this title. Original light gray pictorial wraps, a little darkened at edges.  Approx. 8-1/2 x 5-1/2  inches.  "Ralph Hodgson. A Bibliography," Sweetser A12.b. Illustrated by Lovat Fraser (the uncolored state). The "Flying Fame," mentioned on the inside of the back cover, was a private press run by Hodgson, Lovat Fraser, and Holbrook Jackson. ($40)  $15

[DRYDEN, John].  ABSALOM AND ACHITOPHEL. A POEM.  London, 1708.  Small 8vo., disbound, with 24 pages. Foxon D450 (state with signature mark "c" under "Trade.")  Hills, printer to Cromwell, Charles II, and James II, was later famous for his piracies which occasioned a special Act of Parliament.  ($45)  $25

AUDEN, W. H.  MOUNTAINS.  London, 1954.  First edition.  Original printed, sewn wrappers, 8 pages including covers.  Illustrations by Edward Bawden: decorated title page, color frontispiece and vignette.  With the original printed envelope, which is in a trial state with the price changed by hand from 2/6 to 2/- .  (" . . . For an un-catlike / Creature who has gone wrong / Five minutes on even the nicest mountain / Is awfully long."  In the Ariel Poems series, new series.)  ($40)  $15

AUDEN.  THE DYER'S HAND AND OTHER ESSAYS.  N.Y., (1962).  1st edition in printed dust wrapper. Approximately 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches; vii, 527, [1] pages. Spine is a little darkened, otherwise an excellent copy in a very good dust wrapper. Bloomfield A45.a, "Much of the book consists of revised versions of the lectures delivered by Auden...at Oxford." The London edition was published five months later.  ($40)  $20

MEREDITH, George.  POEMS AND LYRICS OF THE JOY OF EARTH.  London, 1883.  1st edition, "Version 1," (with "Revotl" on p. (lx).) Collie XXVIIIa. Original blue boards with gilt lettering on the spine. Approx 7 x 4-3/4 inches. Patterned endpapers. A little rubbed at head and heel of spine. and front inner hinge cracking, but very good.  ($40)  $15

HOWELLS, WM. D.  NO LOVE LOST, A Romance of Time.  N.Y., 1869.  First edition. BAL 9552. Original decorated bevel- edged cloth, slight rubbing at extremities of spine & corners, one signature a little sprung, slight trace of shelf label on spine, old library bookplate, otherwise very good. Complete with fronts, extra engraved title & one plate.  An  epistolary narrative poem of a tangled love affair involving a lover mistakenly reported dead in the Civil War; & is told from several points of view: the heroine's,  his, & her confidant's.  One of Howell's  scarcer books. The locale is Venice, where Howells had served as US Consul in reward for his campaign biography of Lincoln.  ($40)  $15
