TITLE: “Flowers of Delight culled by Leonard de Vries from the Osborne
Collection of Early Children’s Books”

woodcuts and engravings on wood and copper of which upwards of 125 are
neatly colored, selected with the greatest care from books for juvenile
minds, 1765-1830”.

TITLE: "William Charles. Early Caricaturist, Engraver and Publisher of
Children's Books"

By Harry B. Weiss.
Published by the New York Public Library: 1932.

DISCUSSION: William Charles was a Scot who emigrated from Edinburgh to New
York in 1801 to escape prosecution for some caricatures he had drawn of
the former city’s clergymen. In America he was best known for a series of
caricatures he did dealing with events in the War of 1812, and for his
illustrations for children’s books, which he also published. This scarce
catalog includes a biography, and lists of his books and prints in the New
York Public Library and several other collections.

DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 7"x10", 12 pages of text plus 7 black &
illustrations.

CONDITION NOTES: Covers with some soil and rubbing, a little internal
discoloration and soil.
