Published in New York by J.J. Augustin in 1944.

DISCUSSION: The first trade edition of a legendary book in the literature
of paper-making. This book “presents for the first time the story of
American papermaking. Mr. von Hagen relates the history of its journey to
Europe from the Orient and then traces the development on the American
continent, of which hitherto little has been known.” Dard Hunter wrote the
Introduction.

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 7”x10”, 120 pages plus a tipped-in color
frontispiece and 39 black & white plates, dust jacket.

CONDITION NOTES: Jacket worn, with some soil and chips, some scattered
foxing to the text.
