TITLE: “Centennial Movement. 1876. A Comedy in Five Acts”

By Nathan Appleton.
Published in Boston by Lockwood, Brooks and Company in 1877.

DISCUSSION: A mesmerizingly trite light romantic Victorian comedy with one
redeeming and interesting feature: it features the 1876 Centennial
celebration in Philadelphia, and one scene even takes place in the
Exposition’s Great Hall.

Of great interest as an artifact of the immense popularity and influence
of the Exposition; also of great interest as proving emphatically that
there is no truth to the theory that the popular theater is worse now than
it was in the late 19th century.

Uncommon (unsurprisingly).

DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 4.75”x7.5”, 66 pages.

CONDITION NOTES: Light cover soil and wear, number on the cover.

PRICE: $75-
