I can offer...

Broadside notice regarding the theft of a horse and wagon in Centre Harbor, New Hampshire, 1869. Measures appx. 8 by 11 inches, folded several times with splits to the folds (some very slight loss), a bit soiled, but overall good.

John H. Moulton posted this notice on December 9, 1867, saying “The subscriber let a single team Tuesday, P.M., Dec. 3, to a young man of rather small size, with light complexion, and wore at the time a light overcoat, to go to New Hampton and return Thursday at noon following. Not having heard anything from him or the team, it is evident that his intention was to run away with and dispose of it.” He then describes the horse in great detail: “a dark bay mare eight years old, with her near hip knocked down, or what is called half hipped, a white star in her forehead and, I think, both hind feet are white, she is a good free traveler, roles [sic] a little behind as she travels, weight about 1000, and a very good appearing beast.” He also describes the wagon in some detail, and further notes that “The harness was a common silver washed one, had been in use a number of years, the buffalo robe was pretty old also.” Mr. Moulton was offering $25 for the team and $25 for the young man.

A rare bit of ephemera, interesting for the picturesque detail provided.
