First edition by the Dutch classical scholar Beverland (1650-1716), who was a collector of erotica. This text is a classic of erotic literature, being an erotic-satiric study of virginity, including the loss of virginity, seduction and female sexuality in general. An English translation appeared in 1905, published by Carrington in Paris, entitled "The Law Concerning Draped Virginity. An Academic Study." This copy was owned by Cardinal Giuseppe Renato Imperiali (1651-1737) who was a noted bibliophle. Gay-Lemonnyer I, 819.
