CRANE, Mark. HELON WHEELS. Boston: Bruce Humphries, Inc. Publishers.
[1943]. First edition. Octavo, original green cloth, gilt spine
titles. 293 pp. A fine copy in a VG dust jacket with nice "good girl
art" (which I always assumed meant "bad girl art") which has a few
short closed tears & small splits. Set in Florida, the tale of a
beautiful young woman who is literally "Hell on Wheels". A very
uncommon book. $85
HUGH WAKEM. THE DIARY OF A SMUT-HOUND. A Crusader for Morality in
Literature Supplies the World With a Valuable Insight Into His Life
and Habits. Philadelphia: William Hodgson. [1930] (although the dust
jacket states "William Faro, Inc, New York"). 12mo, original tan
boards titled on spine. 63 pp. Very good copy in a good dust jacket,
some stains , tears and internal tape. Overall, quite
nice. Chapters: A Nude is a Naked Woman; Magistrates and Decency;
Booksellers and Babies; When Duty Becomes a Pleasure; Should a
Bookseller Marry?; Loose Eggs; Mary's Lamb; and The Young Woman with
the Very Red Hair. The biography of a man determined to keep
booksellers from peddling smut -one can only assume that he failed
miserably. $50
KILBON, George B. KNIFE WORK IN THE SCHOOL-ROOM. Springfield, Mass:
Milton Bradley Co. [1890-1891]. Black cloth titled in gilt. [194] pp.
Spine ends worn, front endpaper loose but present, good to very good.
While this purports to be a work on juvenile deliquency in East LA,
it truly is a book on woodworking. $30
LETTERS TO JOHN DOE by Old Fag.London: George Newnes Limited. No Date
(circa 1920). Brown boards titled and decorated in darker brown. 204
pp. Frontispiece and three plates. If nothing else, herein we have,
as Chapter VIII, a letter on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, so if you
have ever wanted a copy of "Old Fag on Frankenstein", here you go. $20
Post extra at cost.
