I can offer...

Chase, C. M.   The Editor’s Run in New Mexico and Colorado.   Embracing Twenty-eight Letters on Stock Raising, Agriculture, Territorial History, Game, Society, Growing Towns, Prices, Prospects, &c., With Occasional Allusion to “The Governor,” the Hearty Invalid, the Pueblo Maiden, and Other Subjects of Territorial Interest.   Lydon, Vermont: Argus and Patriot Steam Book and Job House, 1882.   First edition.   8vo, original illustrated wrappers.   With a frontispiece illustration of a mule loaded with firewood (the tenor of the work can be discerned from the caption of the illustration, which says “This is not the editor”).   The wrappers with some mild to moderate soiling and a few minor chips at the edges, overall a very good copy of a scarce and fragile item.

The prospectus, laid in, says that this collection of letters “from all the growing towns between Denver, Colorado, and El Paso, Texas, includes prices of land, lots, labor and living, profits of investments, prospects of the Territory," and was written “in an off hand, entertaining style and contains several good illustrations.   Any one thinking of emigrating to any of the towns among the foot hills of the Rocky Mountains, can read this book and know all about this country and its inducements before he starts."   As promised, it is a lively and well-described account of the booming New Mexico region.
