[DELRUE, Paul C., bookbinder]. THE REVISED ENGLISH BIBLE. Cambridge, 1989. A striking binding of full black "lacunose" leather, blind-tooled with small, overlapping circles. Large crooked , cross-shaped inlays of smooth brown leather on both covers, each stamped with tiny red crosses and blind circles, and each enclosing a smaller black lacunose leather inlay. Slight musty odor. The lacunose style was invented by Delrue. It involves the application of leather in thin layers and finished with sanding, to create a furrowed or pitted texture. Two cross-shaped inlays, of creased mottled leather, appear on the spine, along with a raised title-label of smooth mottled leather. Black morocco doublures, mottled suede flyleaves, and all edges marbled, with circular patterns stamped on the top and bottom edges. The binding is signed on the front flyleaf with Delrue's stamp, dated 1991. Approx. 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches. Paul C. Delrue, of Chester, England, worked as an apprentice binder at the University College of London, before establishing his own shop in 1971. Since then, he has gained international recognition for his designer bindings. He has been a Fellow of the Society of Bookbinders since 1981 and a Fellow of the Designer Bookbinders since 1991. (Was $450) $200
