VOYAGE OF THE 'MAYFLOWER' (FACSIMILE).

Folio, 535 pages, Facsimiles. Very Good, In clamshell box.
          Copy #43 of 350 of this beautifully produced facsimile of the 
entire 270 page manuscript of Governor Bradford's journal. Written 
between 1630 and 1647, the Bradford journal is one of the best 
narratives of colonization ever penned. Here is the most complete story 
of the Pilgrims, from their 1608 settlement in the Netherlands, through 
the 1620 Mayflower voyage, followed by the establishment of the Plymouth 
Colony with its economic struggles and other difficulties. Bradford is 
credited with being the first civil authority to designate what we now 
know as the American Thanksgiving holiday, and his account of the events 
that inspired it are of course included here. The book ends with a list, 
written in 1650, of Mayflower passengers and what became of them. See 
HOWES #B703. Bound in teal blue cloth over boards backed with beige 
cloth with gilt titles, joints double ruled in gilt, rough-cut leaves. 
This copy expertly restored at an earlier period, including rebacking 
with original spine laid back down, new endpapers, tissue restoration to 
original front free endpaper, and some corner repairs. The volume 
measures approximately 24.5" x 21" and is housed in a somewhat worn and 
faded cloth-covered clamshell box. Scarce.......    $1000.00
