xxxix, [1], 248 pp. 8vo. Paper wrappers. First edition. The Society 
for the Mitigation and Gradual Abolition of Slavery Throughout the 
British Dominions was founded in Britain in March 1823 just prior to 
the Debate in the House of Commons where Canning's resolution 
pledging the House to the principle of emancipation was adopted. A 
scarce and important document with a long preface providing 
republication of the society's earlier prospectus, circulars to 
members, its report of 1823, and "A Brief View of the Nature and 
Effects of Negro Slavery." A very good copy, spine reinforced, small
