We have recently posted on our home page and elsewhere 175 new Limited
Editions Club acquisitions including Original Art for some of the books;
publisher's, office, and proof copies of the books; and books still in
their original shipping containers. Here is an example.
MEREDITH, George (Honore GUILBEAU). THE SHAVING OF SHAGPAT: AN ARABIAN
ENTERTAINMENT: A complete set of the 69 ORIGINAL LINE DRAWINGS for the
book with 34 additional drawings not used. [New York]: [Limited Editions
Club], [1955]. The complete publisher's archive of 103 ORIGINAL
pen-and-brush drawings by Honore Guilbeau used for the book including 34

lower right corner and occasionally with annotations. Housed in a paper
folder with "The George Macy Companies, Inc." printed on it along with
"Proofs : Manuscript : Drawings." Also included are proofs of all of the

An American painter, printmaker and illustrator, Honore Guilbeau first
began to exhibit her art in Cleveland and elsewhere around 1930. During
the 1930's Depression era she worked mainly in the medium of
lithography, contributing at least three such works of art to the Ohio
Chapter of the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.). During the 1940's
and 1950's, Honore Guilbeau illustrated a number of fine books,
including works for the Limited Editions Club: Twain's A CONNECTICUT
YANKEE IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT, THE ADVENTURES OF HAJJI BABA, and THE
SHAVING OF SHAGPAT. (#016592) $7,500.00
