RABELAIS, Francois. GARGANTUA & PANTAGRUEL. THE FIVE BOOKS. New York:
Limited Editions Club, 1936. Five octavo (5-1/2" x 8") volumes in a
green basket-weave cloth. A new translation by Jacques le Clercq,
thought by many to be the finest, most literal, and most complete
translation. Printed by Southworth-Anthoensen in two colors, and
designed and decorated by W. A. Dwiggins. Of a total of 1500 copies
SIGNED by the artist on the colophon page, this copy is not numbered (in
place of the number is written in ink "Office Copy") and bears the
Club's blindstamp stating it is one of 15 presentation copies. Spines a
little dull but with none of the browning along the gutters often found
with this title. Near Fine in a Very Good, intact slipcase. (#016582)
