LIMITED EDITION of 2,000 copies designed by Keith Eddington and printed by Anderson, Ritchie & Simon.  4to.  13 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches.  A-15, B-43 - B-2, C-15, [1 colophon] pp.  Half-title, black-and-white frontispiece portrait of Kate Dunlap, title page, text headers, and picture captions printed in gold ink, black-and-white photographic illustrations, each opening with a color map of Dunlap's route corresponding with the text of the diary adapted from USGS maps, bibliography; text clean, unmarked.  Quarter olive-green cloth, paper over boards illustrated with a Map of the Territory of Montana, cloth titled in gold-colored ink; binding square and tight, text block a bit wavy, covers bowed.  Very Good. 

One of the Fifty Books of the Year for 1970.  This book lays out the overland journey of Kate Dunlap with editorial material reading from right to left just as one would read a map from east to west.  It displays an overland diary right to left with text immediately related to the maps on the same page with the intention of heightening the reader's empathy with the diarist and her story.
