Hotman, Francois. BRUTUM FULMEN PAPAE SIXTI V, ADVERSUS HENRICUM SERENISS. REGEM NAVARRE, & ILLUSTRISSIMUM HENRICUM BORBONIUM, PRINCIPEM CONDAEUM... No place: No pub. (1585). 8vo. 234,(22)pp. Index. Woodcut on Q4. Facsimile of the title page of the 1585 bull of Sixtus V on P6. Cont. vellum. With an inscription on the front free endpaper by "H. F. Plavensis," presumably Hulderich Froelich, a native of Plauen in Saxony, and poet laureate of Basel. The text is well underlined with some occasional marginalia, all presumably in Froelich's hand.	$1,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
The true first edition of an often reprinted satirical polemic against the 1585 bull of Sixtus V, which excommunicated Henry IV and Conde. The first edition can be identified by the list of errata on the final leaf, and by the printed notation "Nahum 3" at the foot of the title-page. The following year, 1586, an English translation appeared under the title THE BRUTISH THUNDERBOLT.
