Published in London by the Phaidon Press in 1992.

DISCUSSION: First published in 1964, this title remains a classic. The
text consists of four lectures on various periods of great tomb sculpture-
ancient Egypt, Greece & Rome, the early Christian period to the Middle
Ages, and the Renaissance.

Erwin Panofsky [1892–1968] was a German art historian whose academic
career was pursued mostly in the U.S. after he fled Germany’s Nazi regime.
“Panofsky's work remains highly influential in the modern academic study
of iconography. Panofsky was a member of the American Academy of Arts and
Sciences, the British Academy and a number of other national academies. In
1962 he received the Haskins Medal of The Medieval Academy of America.”

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 9.5”x11.5”, 319 pages, black & white
illustrations, dust jacket.

CONDITION NOTES: A small name written on the endpaper, otherwise in fine,
clean condition.
