TITLE: “Funeral Customs. Their Origin and Development”

By Bertram S. Puckle.
Published in New York by Frederick A. Stokes Company in 1926.

DISCUSSION: An exceedingly entertaining if somewhat anecdotal study of the
origins and practice of funeral customs from ancient times through the
19th century. Included are chapters on death warnings, preparations for
burial, wakes and wailers, mourning bells, funeral feasts and processions,
burial places, trees, flowers and body-snatching, plague, state funerals,
cremation and embalming, memorials and epitaphs, and more.

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 6"x9", 283 pages, plus 22 black & white plates,
dust jacket.

CONDITION NOTES: The seldom-seen dust jacket has some fading and chipping
(please see the photos). The book itself has a former owner's stamp on
the endpaper, and a little minor age-toning to the pages, but otherwise is
clean and nice, with a tight binding.

PRICE: $125. -
