TITLE: “A Collection of American Epitaphs and Inscriptions with Occasional
Notes. Volume III.”

By Rev. Timothy Alden.
Published in New York in 1814.

DISCUSSION: Apparently the earliest major collection of American epitaphs.
Five volumes were published. The Reverend Timothy Alden was the
great-great grandson of Pilgrims John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, and
first published the story of their courtship, which was later turned into
a poem by Longfellow.

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 3.75”x6”, 288 pages, portrait. Original green
printed boards.

CONDITION NOTES: Spine partially perished, boards worn and soiled. Foxed
please see the photos, above and below).
