TITLE: “The Fairy Circus”

By Dorothy P. Lathrop.
Published in New York by The Macmillan Company in 1931. 1st printing.

DISCUSSION: The scarce first printing of this beautifully-illustrated
children’s classic. Wikipedia notes- “Dorothy Pulis Lathrop (1891–1980)
was an American author and illustrator of children's books. Lathrop was
born April 16, 1891 in Albany, New York. In 1930 she illustrated Rachel
Field's successful children's novel, Hitty: Her First Hundred Years, which
won the Newbery Medal. In 1931 Lathrop wrote [and illustrated] The Fairy
Circus, for which she received a Newbery Medal Honor citation. Lathrop
published many books devoted to the beauty and importance of animals,
[and] also illustrated many other books, especially fantasy and fairy
tales.”

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 9.5”x8.25”, 66+ pages, black & white and color
illustrations.

CONDITION NOTES: Covers with some soil and wear, front hinge cracked,
double-page color plate detached but present, some internal soil (please
see the photos below).
