[Robert Wynne:] The Case of the Oaths Stated. Edinburgh: Re-Printed in theYear, 1689. Small 4to pamphlet (20 cm); caption-titled, issued without a title-page; 12 pp (complete). Wing W3780; ESTC R221062. Disbound from a nonce volume; dust-soiling to the edges, modest soiling to the first and last pages, light browning to the leaves, a few small spots.

Issued in the wake of the Glorious Revolution and dealing with the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy Act of 1688, whereby office-holders and the clergy were required to swear allegiance to William and Mary. The author, no fan of "Popery and French slavery," argues in favor of taking the new oath and dismisses those "Casuists" who contend that their oaths to the deposed James II are still valid, arguing that James, by aligning himself with the Pope and "French Philistines," had forfeited his subjects' loyalty. Quite uncommon: ESTC locates only three copies in UK institutions (Cambridge, Carlisle, NLS), and two in the U.S. (Newberry, U of Illinois).
