[Robert Walpole:] Some Considerations Concerning the Publick Funds, the Publick Revenues, and the Annual Supplies, Granted by Parliament. Occasion’d by a late Pamphlet, intitled, An Enquiry into the Conduct of our Domestick Affairs, from the Year 1721, to Christmas 1733. London: Printed for J. Roberts at the Oxford Arms in Warwick-Lane, 1735. FIRST EDITION. Pamphlet-sized 8vo; 110, [2] pp.; woodcut decorations and initials; with the terminal blank leaf. Sabin 101148; Kress 4247; Hanson 4813; European Americana, 735/246; ESTC T49251.

The anonymous author is Robert Walpole, First Lord of the Treasury from 1722-1742, who exercised such power and influence that he became known as the First Minister, giving rise to the term Prime Minister. He was largely responsible for cleaning up the mess after the collapse of the "South Sea Bubble" in the 1720s, one of the great financial crashes in history. Here, in response to persistent attacks by the opposition, Walpole presents a lengthy and detailed defense of his fiscal policies from 1721-1733. Included are remarks on the affairs of the South Sea Company and on trade in the West Indies and other parts of America, the Bank of England, the National Debt, the Sinking Fund, etc., etc.

Disbound from a nonce volume with remnants of old leather binding on the spine; soiling to the title-page and last blank page; a few corners slightly bumped; original/early owner's ink marginalia on three pages; otherwise quite clean and fresh, securely bound.
