The Mansion House Council on the Dwellings of the Poor. Report for the Year ending December 31st, 1890. [London: Mansion House, 1891]. Small 8vo in recent french wraps with printed labels; 112 pp.; illustrated with photographs. Bump to the bottom forecorner of the text block; frontispiece with a small chip and some soiling to the verso; discreet ink stamps of the Library of the Oblates of St. Charles, Bayswater, on the verso of the frontispiece and the last page (no other library markings); a few leaves dust-soiled at the edges; otherwise quite clean and sound, firmly bound.

A survey of the living conditions, particularly the sanitary conditions, of the London poor, with sections on many of the city's districts (Limehouse, Holborn, St. Giles, Hammersmith, etc.), and notes on inspectors, water supply, model houses, "curious complaints" ("I be a living in a stewed eel shop"), etc. Also included is the complete text of the "Report of the Public Inquiry into the Sanitary Conditions of St. Leonard's, Shoreditch, ordered by the Home Secretary."
