De Rerum Virtute. 

(San Francisco: The Grabhorn Press, 1953). 

4to.  12 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches.  Unpaginated.  [16] pp.  Headpiece with urn filled with fruit, initial letter “H” and printer’s device on the colophon printed in gold; text clean, unmarked.  Quarter beige cloth, beige paper with pattern printed in red, red leather spine label titled in gilt, purple dust-jacket nicely preserved in archival mylar; binding square and tight, jacket spine sunned, with a few small chips to the corners.  GIFT INSCRIPTION signed by Theodore Max Lilienthal and “L. O. K.” to "Marian and Alfred" who apparently were unable to attend the tribute dinner.  Also laid in is a facsimile of a letter from Robinson Jeffers to Jake Zeitlin, dated Tor House, March 22, 1935.  Very SCARCE.  Very Good. 

LIMITED EDITION of 30 copies of this birthday tribute to Theodore Max Lilienthal (1912-2009) printed letterpress by the Grabhorns in French Old Style type on mold-made paper (1 of the 30 was printed on vellum).  Privately printed for Frances B. Lilienthal in February 1953.  Contains a dedicatory letter and the poem “De Rerum Virtute” by Robinson Jeffers, the first appearance in print of this poem.  REFERENCE: Magee and Magee, Bibliography of the Grabhorn Press, 1940-1956, No. 533.
