THE ENGLISH SPELLING BOOK ... FROM THE 341st LONDON EDITION, REVISED AND IMPROVED.
Montreal, 1861. Cloth-backed printed boards, very good. Illustrated. On a rear end paper is a colored seal of the Idaho Territory showing Wm. Law, Jr., as a notary public in Ada County. (Son of Wm. Law, an early and important convert to Mormonism; the elder Law quarreled with Smith and was declared an apostate. The controversy probably contributed to Smith's death. Law, Sr., lived until 1892, reputably in Wisconsin. Wm. Law, Jr., born in Wisconsin in 1841, practiced law in Chicago & in Idaho, where, presumably the notary stamp was placed in the book. The Canadian imprint reflects the fact that the Laws had relatives in Canada. An interesting Mormon association book.) $90
