[i-iii], iv, [v-viii], [9], 10-200 & [5]-188, [1]-2, [1]-2 pages, 
Frontispiece lithograph plus 17 plates. Near Fine.
          Griffiths, an American naval architect, is credited with 
designing the first true clipper ship. This is his scarce second work on 
shipbuilding, two volumes published in one. Tissue-guarded frontispiece 
lithograph of steamship Wm. Norris. The tissue guards over the remaining 
17 plates in the text also remain in place, with most being lightly 
foxed. There is some mild browning to some sections of the textblock. 
Bound in original or early cloth over boards with leather spine. Minor 
exterior wear including rubs along joints, shallow bumps at fore 
corners. Prior owner embossed seal at lower fore corner of title
