Two volumes, large 8vos in modern paper-covered boards and cloth spines; [4], xvi, 791, [1] pp.; [3]-840 pp.; vol. II without a separate title-page (as issued?); with one plate and 4 pp. of publisher's adverts ("Valuable Medical Books published by Grigg & Elliot").

Monumental compendium of mid-nineteenth-century medical knowledge, consisting of two parts, General Pathology and Therapeutics, and a more extensive and detailed Special Pathology and Therapeutics covering everything from Gout to Hysteria. Leaves somewhat browned and foxed, as is typical of American imprints of the time, most noticeable on the first and last few leaves; damp-stain to the top edge of the first 30 or so leaves of vol. II; a few leaves with corners creased; otherwise sound in fresh and firm modern bindings.
