[Charles Pleydell Neale Wilton:] Remarks on Certain Parts of Mr. Granville Penn's Comparative Estimate of the Mineral and Mosaical Geologies, and on other Geological Writings of the Present Day, which affect the Right Interpretation of the Text of the Scripture. London: Printed for C. and J. Rivington, 1826. FIRST EDITION. Slim 8vo bound in recent olive-green french wraps; [iii}-xii + 76 pp.

A response to Penn's influential Comparative Estimate, in which the antiquarian and grandson of William Penn came down on the side of the "young-earth" (Mosaical, or scriptural) view of geology, rather than the "old-earth" (Mineral) view which argued that "there must have been other great revolutions on this globe [prior to] the flood in the days of Noah." The author, Charles Wilton (1795-1859), who generally agrees with Penn, was a minister and amateur naturalist, a fellow of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, who emigrated to Australia the year after this work was published, having been appointed chaplain for New South Wales in October, 1826.

Bound without the half-title page; light toning to the leaves, bumping to the top fore-corners, a few small stains and spots; otherwise quite clean and crisp, securely bound in fresh modern wraps.
