RILEY, James Whitcomb. THE FLYING ISLANDS OF THE NIGHT. Indianapolis: 
Bowen Merrill, 1892. First Edition. White flexible boards embossed with 
an all-over design of cherub heads and the front cover stamped in gold. 
BAL 16587: Printing 1, Binding A. INSCRIBED "Very truly yours" and 
SIGNED in full by the author in Indianapolis in December 1891. Riley has 
also added TWO LINES OF VERSE: "As full of naught/As space is full of 
emptiness." With two small corrections in the text, presumably by Riley. 
A fragile book, especially with the original dustwrapper. Half-inch chip 
at the base of the spine with a very small chip at the head; minor 
spotting to covers and dustwrapper. Very Good in a Very Good and scarce 
printed dustwrapper. (#009405)        $750.00
