Title page within an ornate woodcut border and text profusely illustrated with woodcuts of antiquities (Latin inscriptions on stone tablets, sarcophagi, etc.). One full-page woodcut of an ancient above ground burial site. Device of Schoeffer on the final leaf of colophon. 17th century calf with ornate border designs, gilt stamped inscription in central panel of front cover dated "1679". Approx. 15 pin-hole worm tracks through the 22 leaves, and some light staining. Housed in a morocco-backed cloth slipcase.    $5,000.00 (trade discount allowed)
The second
 edition (the first is 1520) of this collection of ancient Latin epitaphs. Johannus Schoeffer was the son of Peter Schoeffer. VD 16 H6468.
