Sm. 8vo. viii,208pp. BOUND WITH: Lessing, Gotthold Ephraim and Herder, Gellert, Meissner, &c. &c. FABLES AND PARABLES from the German... London: James Burns. (1845). (2),72pp. Engraved woodcut title and woodcut vignette frontispiece. Both works bound together (circa 1900) by Little Brown & Co. in 1/2 polished calf over marbled boards, lightly rubbed, gilt decorated spine with tan morocco label. T.e.g. Bookplate on front pastedown.    $450.00 (trade discount allowed)
Lessing FABLES (after Aesop) were first translated into English by J.
 Richardson in 1773. Our 1825 edition is a new anonymous translation, with apparently the first English translation of his two long essays, "Essay on Fables" and "Essay on Epigrams."
