the Democratic Meeting, at Albany, N.Y. Philadelphia: King & Baird, 1863.
First Edition. 16pp. Page 2 is blank. Page 3 contains "Letter of the
Committee," signed in type by Erastus Corning, President, and dated 19 May
1863. Pp. 4-6 contain "Resolutions Adopted at the Meeting Held in Albany,
N.Y., on the 16th of May, 1863." Pp. 7-16 are titled "Mr. Lincoln's Reply,"
addressed to Hon. Erastus Corning and others, dated 12 June 1863. Original
brown wraps, separated at spine, slight paper loss from back cover,
otherwise intact and complete. 8.75" x 5.75" Good . Original Wrappers.
In the matter of Clement L. Vallandigham, an Ohio Copperhead, who denounced
Burnside's General Order No. 38, forbidding public expressions of sympathy
for the Confederacy. Vallandigham decried Burnside's order in a speech. He
was arrested, tried by a military commission, and banished by Lincoln
beyond the Federal lines. As set forth in this pamphlet, Pres. Lincoln
refused to release Vallandigham from prison. [Sabin 41159. Monaghan 242.]
