HUMOURISTS, A MEDLEY. New York: C. S. Van Winkle, 1822. First American
Edition. Two volumes bound in contemporary sheep leather with
gilt-lettered morocco spine labels. Complete with half-title pages. BAL
10109. A series of character sketches of the occupants of an English
manor written while Irving lived in England. Earl y owner name of E.
Hubbard on the front blanks and the half-title page of the first volume.
Moderate to heavy foxing throughout; a few small tears with loss of a
few words to the bottom of one page in the second volume. Very Good.
Washington Irving was America's first genuine internationally
best-selling author and the first American to earn his living from his
